 Leader Training Requirements

Notes from the Training Team:
There is a variety of on-line training available.  You can reach the on-line training through the district website off the training tab or from www.ocscouts.org by going to Council, Training, On line training.  Be sure that you are registered and have your BSA Membership # when you go to this site as this information is needed to send to Council office.  Also, be sure to print your trained card at the end of the course and give a copy to you unit trainer person (Pack Trainer or Troop Training Chairman)  for record keeping.  All new leaders should go to this site as soon as they have their BSA registration to take FAST START for their position and YOUTH PROTECTION.  Venturing Leaders should be careful to be sure they take Venturing Youth Protection as it is different than the Youth Protection for other BSA leaders due to the co-ed program Venturing offers. Youth Protection is required to be renewed every 2 years.  There is a variety of other on-line training available that you may take at your leisure including a new "Weather Hazards" course that is extremely informational.

For a list of upcoming training courses throughout the Council go to this link: http://www.doubleknot.com/openrosters/Calendar.asp?orgkey=1305

Records Update:
A goal we have as a Council this year it to get our leader's training records up-to-date then keep them current.  Dino Rodasta from Great Northern District has worked on a program with the Council and National office that will eventually integrate with ScoutNet.  But, first we need your help.  Your unit commissioners should have given you a "Unit Inventory of Training" on one of his/her recent visits.  If not, you can find this in one of two places - on the Council website under forms and under the training tab on our District webpage.  After you fill this out you please send a copy to me at ameyer7@nc.rr.com or you can mail to me at Ann Meyer, 113 Martinhill Drive, Youngsville, NC 27596 or leave for me at Council office on the front table in an envelope with my name on it....just e-mail me to let me know it is there.  One other thing this does for the District Training Team is to know what kind of leader training is needed and in what area of the District. Please have these finished and returned to Ann Meyer by April 30th, 2008.

Are you an "old syllabus" Wood Badger?  Did you know that you are among the lucky few that can experience Wood Badge for a second time by taking Wood Badge for the 21st Century?  Have you ever had the dream of being considered for Wood Badge staff?   Wood Badge for the 21st Century is the premier adult leadership training course that includes Cub Scouting, Boy Scouting, Venturing and Varsity Scouting, Council and Professional Staff.    New requirements are that you must take Wood Badge for the 21st Century in order to be considered for staff. Come out and join the staff of SR-894 at Camp Durant this Fall as we put on the best Wood Badge course that Occoneechee Council has ever offered!!  Applications can be found on-line at http://www.ocscouts.org/ under the training calendar. And don't forget that Neuse River's own Kevin Carpenter is this year's Scoutmaster/Course Director!"
