As Pinewood Derby season draws nearer, we want to make everyone aware of the 2018 Pinewood Derby Clinic on January 13, 2018 from 1:00pm to 4:00pm. To provide service to the most Cub Scouts, we are offering TWO LOCATIONS IN 2018, one in Wake Forest and one in Knightdale. This is an opportunity for any Cub Scout, with a leader or parent, to come and work on their car with the many available tools -- anything from cutting the raw block to fine shaping and sanding to axle polishing and burr removal. Cub Scouts can also network with other racers (a.k.a. "scoping out the competition."). Both locations are are planning to offer sessions on speed tips for those who are new to the Pinewood Derby.
VOLUNTEERS AND TOOLS NEEDED
In order to make this a successful event, we need tools and volunteers to help "man" those tools. We have some of these lined up, but having more than one of each allows for Cub Scouts to move faster through the process.
- Belt Sanders
- Handheld Power Drills and Drill Presses
- Metal Files
- smaller tools such as chisels and sandpaper
If you have access to any of the tools above and are willing to volunteer their use and a few hours of your time, our Cub Scouts would be very appreciative of your service! For many Cub Scouts, this is the only opportunity they have to make significant progress in such a short amount of time, and in one place.
Please note that there is no cost for this event, but pre-registration by January 5, 2018 is required for both volunteers (with or without tools) and participants.. See the attached flyer for more information about the event, and jump here to register for the 2018 PWD Clinic.
